Common Names: Tonkin Cane, Tea Stick
hardy to 15 degrees
2.5" x 50'
Native to China, this is the famous flyrod bamboo. Used
for over 100 years in the custom building of handmade split flyrods.
For flyrod construction, the bamboo is split into small tapering linear
triangles. Then, they are glued and lashed together in an octagonal pattern for
strength. Used extensively prior to graphite, custom construction is still
practice by artisans.
The canes are extremely straight, thick walled with
non-prominent nodes. It can attain a size of 2.5" in diameter
by 50' tall. This bamboo doesn't taper much from base to top, making it great
for construction projects.
It is highly valued for its wood. We sell out of this species nearly every year by the end of Spring.
It takes years for this species to mature, but the wait is well worth it.
