In USDA Climate Zone 7 expect mature size canes to be over 20 feet in height.

In USDA Climate Zone 6 expect mature size canes to be 16 feet in height.

In USDA Climate Zone 5 expect mature size canes to be 12 to 14 feet in height.

In USDA Climate Zone 4 expect mature size canes to be 8 feet in height with some
top kill during severe winter months.

This rare species is one of the most cold hardy species of temperate bamboo on earth. It can handle temperatures to -15 degrees F. which makes it suitable as an evergreen bamboo for USDA Climate Zones 5.  Grows aggressive in zones  6, 7, and even tolerates the warmer zone 8 in the south.

In Alabama and Georgia it grows quickly to 12 and 16 feet in height while remaining very bushy like with plenty of low growing limbs. Used extensively in Ohio's cold zone 5 where temps can go to -10 degrees F. quite often. This little beauty handles windy sites better than 'Yellow Groove' and is at the top of the list on cold hardiness.
