Second generation owner Roger Lewis Jr. with his lovely wife Rachel.

Rachel began answering customer questions and taking phone orders in August 2006.

Our family owned and operated company ships over 7000 bamboo divisions
throughout North America each year. As one of the largest providers
we sell only premium divisions. With an annual inventory of over 7000
containerized bamboo we are able to select only the best.

June 2006 Retirement
Roger Sr. and Gayle Lewis

"Much has happened over the years and we have proudly passed our love of bamboo
to our one and only child. Now the time has come for us to step back from the labor
intensive nursery business. Our company grew from simple honest principals. As
time passed, we have found the importance of simplicity and God.

We continue to live by these standards and have greatly simplified our lives. We have
reduced all our material processions and even moved into a smaller home to care
for. We now enjoy our lovely grand daughter Harper. A nice sailboat has been
acquired and we will soon be leaving on an extended trip. Gayle and I can now
enjoy the fruits of our many years of hard work."

Its time for us to relax!

Gayle & Roger Sr.

Growing bamboo at the current nursery site since 1985, Roger Sr. and Gayle Lewis
operated the very first Alabama Bamboo
Nursery with a web site in 1995 under the
name Wolf Creek Bamboo. It was named after the river the nursery was established
 on.
The business quickly expanded and was renamed Lewis Bamboo Groves.

Lewis Bamboo Groves grew
rapidly and in October 2003 the nursery
incorporated under the direction of Roger Jr. as Lewis Bamboo Inc.

Through years of experience we found if you provide excellent bamboo and customer
service, your customer base will grow.
When you call there will  be a member of
the Lewis family to answer your questions and take the order.

No matter how much we grow, Lewis Bamboo Inc. will provide excellent bamboo
divisions and service to all our customers.

Lewis Bamboo will continue to expand to meet consumer needs and always value any size bamboo order.

We have been growing bamboo on our current property since 1985. Our bamboo hobby turned into a large business that we hope is making the world a greener place. Over the years, Roger Sr. and Gayle passed the love of this beautiful plant onto their only child, Roger Jr.

This photo of Roger was made several years ago in our Moso grove.

He graduated with honors in 1999, BS in Business Management, from the University of Alabama. Roger is a state licensed landscaper and now owns and operates Lewis Bamboo, Inc.

In 2003, Gayle and Roger Sr. opened 'Bamboo Design' which does some contract work with Lewis Bamboo Inc.

To the right, Gayle is shown in the Moso grove next to a
giant new Moso shoot. Gayle served for years as the web
master for the American Bamboo Society's Southeast Chapter. She also held the office of a director for the Southeast Chapter.

In 2006, she got the new convertible that she always wanted. After 35 years of marriage to Roger Sr., she deserves this and a lot more.

American Bamboo Society Southeast Chapter meeting at Lewis Bamboo.
We are all very active members of the American Bamboo Society. We attend meetings and volunteer regularly to clean up groves to restore them to their natural beauty. On February 15, 2003 Gayle was elected as the director for the Southeast Chapter of the ABS, also on October 17, 2003 she was selected to be the webmaster. She proudly served in these positions and will always continue do her part to spread the love of bamboo.

We attended a chapter meeting at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens where Roger Sr. was honored to be asked to sit on a panel. The panel taught and answered questions from the public. Left to right, Steve Ray, Roger Sr., Harry Abel, and Robby Russell  (check out the photos on 'Our Bamboo News'.

The Southeast Chapter chose to meet at Lewis Bamboo. Photos of prominent bambuseros in the South
and information about the meeting can be viewed here Bamboo Chapter Meeting.

We have many repeat customers and the reasons are simple. After comparing the size, species and total price, you too will find we offer the most bamboo for less.  Our nursery uses standard sizes which we list and have photographs demonstrating the size through out our web site. We do not ship our bamboo bare root. We add water plus peat moss to ensure your bamboo arrives healthy with a moist root ball.

In 2007, Lewis Bamboo was happy to add a new Operational Manager, Denny Kilgore.

Den had nearly ten years of garden center management experience at the nations largest retail chain. Now a valued employee,

Den has been a friend of the family for over 26 years.

hearts, Harper has arrived!

Harper will begin attending bamboo meetings soon. We have been talking bamboo
a good bit to her, she smiles and talks back. At this time we are just not sure
 what she is saying.

We are sure bamboo will become an important part of her life
and look forward to her playing in the groves.

Like most lovely girls, she
 is a photo hound.
