'BLACK BAMBOO' Phyllostachys nigra 'Black' bamboo plants are a favorite garden ornamental in China and Japan. Those who grow this bamboo in Western gardens are charmed by it's graceful habits and by the sharp accent of color provided by the dark culms and green foliage. The new green culms turn darker as they are exposed to sunlight. It does well as a potted bamboo as long as it is placed in a cool place in the winter to have a dormant period. We have reduced our 3 gallon 'Black' to $65 each plus $10 S&H We have a great inventory while most small nurseries have sold out already. 'SPECTABILIS'
Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Spectabilis' - This species is rarely offered and always goes fast due to it beauty and cold hardiness. Home gardeners and nurseries throughout the North get this species from us for a beautiful evergreen bamboo. In full sun, these canes will turn from golden to a burgundy red in color. This rare species is one of the most cold hardy species of temperate bamboo. It can handle temperatures to

Used extensively in Ohio's cold zone 5 where temps can go to -10 degrees F. quite often. 'Shiroshima' This unusual bamboo can grow to 16 feet in height under ideal conditions. With beautiful long 10 inch leaves that contain creamy stripes this is a striking specimen plant. 'MOSO'
Phyllostachys edulis
'Moso' - If you live in the southeast U.S. you can grow the
largest
temperate bamboo on earth, 75 feet tall by 7 inch diameter. Mature sizes can be obtained in climate zones 7 and 8 in the southeast United States. We do not recommend this species for climate zones 6 as it will disappoint growers. In zone 5 it will struggle to survive and most likely die. On the lighter side, if you live in the right area you have grow 'Moso' to hugh diameters and 75 feet in height. 'Moso' is known for its tiny leaves on larger canes giving the grove a very distinctive look. One of our largest 'Moso' groves is shown below from a distance to show foliage. 'Green Onion Bamboo'

This one is special and is sought by many gardeners and collectors. This
is a very erect species of bamboo having a dark green leaves up to 12 inches
in length.
It does well in containers and when planted in the ground can grow to 18 feet in height. The large swollen internodes which resemble green onions make it very unusual. Similar to 'Arrow Bamboo' this species is not considered to be very invasive in nature compared to other runners used for privacy screening. This bamboo adapts well to growing inside.
