 Black Bamboo | 'BLACK BAMBOO' Phyllostachys nigra 'Black' bamboo plants are a favorite garden ornamental in China and Japan. Those who grow this bamboo in Western gardens are charmed by it's graceful habits and by the sharp accent of color provided by the dark culms and green foliage. The new green culms turn darker as they are exposed to sunlight. It does well as a potted bamboo as long as it is placed in a cool place in the winter to have a dormant period. Our 3 gallon size (4'-6') have also been reduced to $49 each plus $10 S&H We have a great inventory while most small nurseries have sold out already. Our nursery specializing in bamboo only and maintains over 7000 containized bamboo specimens yearly.  Cold Hardy | 'SPECTABILIS' Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Spectabilis' - T his species is rarely offered and always goes fast due to it beauty and cold hardiness. Home gardeners and nurseries throughout the North get this species from us for a beautiful evergreen bamboo. In full sun, these canes will turn from golden to a burgundy red in color. This rare species is one of the most cold hardy species of temperate bamboo. It can handle temperatures to -15 degrees F. which makes it suitable as We have a good supply of these, but these always sell very quickly duringan evergreen bamboo for USDA Climate Zones 5. Grows aggressive in zones 6, 7 and even tolerates the warmer zone 8 in the South. In Alabama and Georgia it grows quickly to 12 and 16 feet in height while remaining very bushy like with plenty of low growing limbs. Used extensively in Ohio's cold zone 5 where temps can go to -10 degrees F. quite often. This little beauty handles windy sites better than 'Yellow Groove' and is at the top of the list on cold hardiness. the Spring due to orders from large landscaping firms.
