Arundinaria gigantea 'Tecta' (Switchcane)

A. tecta

This is one of two bamboo that are native to the continental United States.
This sub-species of A. gigantea can reach a height of 8 feet by 1/2 inches in
diameter. It will tolerate almost full shade and will grow more like a low
growing runner if it has limited sunlight. In full sun, it will reach its full
height and look like the pictures here.

This species has a very erect culm and large leaves for its overall size.
Notice the new culms that are growing in front of this grove.

This is a closer look at the bushy leaves that make this a full looking culm.
