Sun to Shaded Site
This great bamboo is a little
brother to the above native gigantea. Good for any site since it is
suited to any light conditions and swampy areas. There are air
channels in the roots which allows it to handle soggy soil
conditions. In deep shade, it remains under three feet in height,
but in full sun it will grow to over 8 feet.
I recommend this species for Climate Zones 5 and warmer.

This is one of two bamboo
that
are native to the continental United States.
This sub-species of A.
gigantea
can reach a height of 8 feet by 1/2 inches in
diameter. It will
tolerate
almost full shade and will grow more like a low
growing runner if it
has
limited sunlight. In full sun, it will reach its full
height and look
like
the pictures here.
This species
has a very
erect
culm and large leaves for its overall size.
Notice the
new
culms that are growing in front of this grove.

This is a closer look at
the bushy leaves that
make
this a full looking culm.
