Our Bamboo News

We had some more customers come out on Thursday. Hunter and Liz made the short 14 hours trip over from Ovalo, TX. They wanted larger plants than they could mail order for their 1000 acre farm. There was an assortment of plants, ranging from size from Sasa Palmata to Phyllostachy Nigra 'Henon'. It was nice to get to meet them and we really enjoyed their visit.

Below are some of the rare species we currently have available. We had a customer visiting Thursday that was just out this past Tuesday. Below are photos from both days and thanks Edward for all the repeat business.

We have some inexpensive bamboo as low as $30, however we grow very rare bamboo from all over the world. Not offered by many bamboo specialty nurseries, this rare cold hardy bamboo is always in short supply and high demand. This giant is cold hardy to - 9 degrees F. Under ideal conditions the grove will grow to over 70 feet in height and have 5 inch diameter canes.

This giant can also grow to over 70 feet and is cold hardy to -5 degrees F.

Edwin and his lovely wife had visited three years ago and purchased several species of bamboo. They are really taking off now and they wanted more. To the left is one of the 30 gallon Moso they picked out on Tuesday.

On  Tuesday, they picked out Moso, Yellow Groove
and Viridis 'Pigskin' which
are all fast growing timber bamboo.

On Thursday, Edwin returned for another 30 gallon Moso, 15 gallon Viridis 'Robert Young', 15 gallon Nigra 'Black', 3 gallon Nigra Henon 'Giant Gray', 15 gallon P.b. 'Timber Crookstem' and shown
to the left a beautiful 'Aureocaulis'.

All wrapped up and a bamboo support pole in place, Edwin was ready to go. Thanks again and we hope you enjoy the bamboo for years to come.

Here we are loading a large order for a customer in Atlanta , GA. We have also purchased another 24 foot trailer to facilitate more deliveries. This order is comprised of Moso. Ranging in sizes from 30 gallon to 10 gallon sizes. Moso is the largest temperate bamboo and is a beautiful plant, used extensively in japanese gardens

These plant were to be delivered to Jim's estate in Buckhead, GA a suburb of Atlanta. When we first arrived, I saw the building on the left and was impressed, only to find out that it was the pool house.  Around back was the marble waterfalls leading to the main residence. This was truly an impressive estate. Jim is starting his japanese gardens on the back 8 acres of the estate and chose 'Moso' to surround the gardens. It will create a lovely curtain of bamboo to divide the new gardens from all the others.

Jim considered himself as an amateur landscape architect, but upon seeing his estate and the work he plans to do himself, I would call him a pro. The picture on the left is the start of his waterfalls that will contain Koi fish. It has multiple rock bridges to access the other side and a source pond. The picture on the right is Jim in his track hoe starting to plant the bamboo. It is a great undertaking, but looking at the rest of the estate, I don't think it will be a problem for him.

Expect more pictures and bamboo to come because Jim will not stop until it is perfect. It was a pleasure to get to see his estate and gardens. We are looking forward to doing more business with him in the future, thanks.

Today we are preparing for two more deliveries. A repeat landscaper in Birmingham tomorrow and then a large order of Moso going to Atlanta next week. Check back soon for more interesting news
and photos.

We had a request for 60 gallon pots of Phyllostachys nigra 'Henon'. So today we started potting a few of these back breaking sizes.

Ed visited us today. He traveled up from Baton Rouge, LA. He was wanting a very erect and colorful screening bamboo. He chose the Phyllostachys Aureosulcata 'Spectabilis'. This is a great species and it is also cold hardy for people in cold climate zones. It also grows great in warm climates, just a little more aggressively. Thanks for your order Ed and it was nice to get to meet you.

4/5/2007 Thursday

Today, we delivered to Stephen and Paddy. They visited last month and scheduled their delivery for today. They desired a screen to block the view of a local school. They also wanted bamboo that would help with erosion, noise, and a wind break. They decided to get Phyllostachy Aurea. This bamboo will fulfill all of their requirements and add even more beauty to their wonderful landscape. Thanks for the order and it was a pleasure to get to help you.

4/4/2007 Wednesday

We had visitors today from Mobile, AL. Steve and Kathy visited  our nursery for some ornamental plantings for their landscape.  They were interested in giant and colorful species. After looking at all the different species they were able to grow, they decided on Phyllostachy Vivax Aureocaulis, Phyllostachy Viridis 'Robert  Young', Moso, Black, and Pseudosasa Amabilis. The Amabilis is the canes that are used for the production of bamboo flyrods. Steve purchased it for a great conversation piece. They bought some unique choices that should add a very interesting aspect to their landscape.

Here, we are on one of the elevated walkways that runs through some of our groves. This gives you a different aspect of bamboo and is a great place to point out some of the different characteristic of various bamboo.

We really enjoyed their visit and was glad they chose us to help them with their landscape. Thanks again.

Another busy week has started. Today, we have a local delivery to  Dr. Chastain. He saw our special on the Fox 6 news and decided that bamboo would be perfect to secure the privacy of his beautiful  home and gardens. He chose Phyllostachy Aurea and Phyllostachys Nigra Henon 'Giant Gray' to provide the privacy.  Additionally, he chose Pseudosasa Japonica tsutsumiana 'green onion' for an ornamental planting. You can also see in this picture some of the mail order boxes. We are shipping around 200 plants a week at this point. Spring is a busy exciting time.

Above are just a few of the beautiful views from his garden. It even has an antique door imported from England in the entrance way.  It was a beautiful serene setting and bamboo will help insure that  it remains this way. To the right are the plants that he ordered for a screen. We were very happy to get to meet him and his wife and to help in this beautiful landscape. Thanks
