Phyllostachys
bambusoides
'Slender
Crookstem'

This is one of the giant timber species
that is breathe taking inside
a large grove.

The wood
quality of
all bambusoides species
is excellent. Slender
Crookstem is very straight and the thick walled canes make it one
of the
toughest bamboo. Around 10% of the grove will have a very slight
bend located in the lower portion of the culm.

In
the
warmer
climate zones 7 and 8, you can expect this
beautiful
giant to grow over 50 feet
in height. Slender Crookstem is more hardy than typical
Bambusoides Timber Bamboo and much
quicker to reach large sizes. This is one of our best species for
bamboo
privacy screening.
The above planting is 4 years old and has hundreds of 18 foot canes.
Note how the canes
under 2 inch diameter have full foliage nearly to the ground
level. This provides
excellent screening with a giant timber bamboo. I have measured
this bamboo in
our area at 55
feet in height and 4 inches in diameter.
