Temple or Japanese Palm Bamboo

     Semiarundinaria fastuosa

                    'TEMPLE BAMBOO'  or 'JAPANESE PALM'

This species has very erect canes  which  age to a beautiful purple or dark reddish color. This the most erect species we grow. Mature culms are very straight, erect with foliage only  at the top one third of the culms. Often referred to as one of the red bamboo.  This species has quasi  persistent culm sheaths. Bamboo in its natural setting is free to roam finding just the right sun light and soil nutrients  to grow to its mature species size. In a container, it is not capable of this and will rely solely on your care.

In cold climate zones you must move the container into a protected warm area during the cold winter months.

In the right photo, visitors touring the groves stand in front of a large grove.

The culm sheaths are quasi persistent. They often hang on in a
semidetached state for a number of weeks or months
after the new culms have completed their growth.

our groves of  'Temple Bamboo'. He later picks out
some of 30 gallon divisions to take home with him.

Palm Bamboo

These were some large divisions to be installed in a walkway of a contemporary dental office. Some of the entrance can be seen in the left hand corner picture. More photos can be seen here.
