Phyllostachys nigra 'Bory' 'LEOPARD
or SNAKESKIN BAMBOO'
Plant introduction number (PI) into the U.S. 77258 Sun to Part Shade Rare collector's bamboo
From
China this species is a larger relative of 'Black' with
canes
that develop spots of blackish/brown coloration. The canes never turn
completely
solid black, but have a spotted 'snakeskin' appearance. This is one of
a kind bamboo. The dark spots usually appear in the second year age of
new culms (canes). It is as fast growing as the mother form Henon
'giant
gray'. I recommend this species for USDA Climate Zones 6 and warmer.
