My parents, Roger Sr. and Gayle, are the founders of Lewis Bamboo. Retired from the main nursery business, they will never lose their love of bamboo and stay very involved in the bamboo world.    They recently returned from a 10,000 plus mile trip out west and north to Alaska. On the trip they visited Gib Cooper, in Gold Beach, Oregon. An old bamboo friend whom they usually only see during bamboo meetings. It was great for them to see his place and invited Gib and Dianne to Lewis Bamboo.

They spent several hours visiting and touring Gib's beautiful plantings of bamboo. Several divisions were shipped back after selecting mountain species they thought had a chance of surviving the humid summers of Alabama.

Wednesday 8/6/2008 & Monday 7/14/2008

In this picture we are pulling some giant plants and burlaping them. They are getting ready to go to a repeat customer at Lake Lanier, GA. Some of these large bamboo divisions weigh over 250 lbs and are very fun to handle.
	Todd had ordered some bamboo from us last year to provide a screen for his hot tub. The hot tub is on the porch behind the bamboo.
Here is the view from the porch. This screen is from large bamboo plants with one year of growth. These plants can provide privacy quick.
	On the other side of Todd's house a tree had fallen. Todd and his neighbor, David, decided to plant bamboo between their houses to regain the privacy lost from the fallen tree. The bamboo is now in the location where the tree was in this picture.
Here is some of the bamboo installed. More bamboo was added after this picture make the privacy screen thicker.
	Gray Henon bamboo was planted. This species starts to have limbs a little higher up when the species matures. This allows you to enjoy the canes at the bottom and have great privacy from about 6'-45' when the bamboo grove matures. We greatly appreciate the multiple orders and hope you enjoy your new privacy.

Monday 7/7/2008

This is Mr. Giles house in Memphis, TN. It is a pretty estate, but the previous owners built some condos on the property that back up to the estate. Mr. Giles decided to install Phyllostachys Bissetii to add privacy to this side of his house.
	We installed barrier to help contain the bamboo from spreading. Barrier is typically around 95% effective in controlling the spread of bamboo.
Here is a picture of the finished product. The barrier and bamboo has been installed and mulched in this picture. You can also view the condos in the back of the pictures. The Phyllostachys Bissetii makes a lovely screen and should add privacy to this estate and the condos. Thanks for the order Mr. Giles.

Monday 7/7/2008

The Carrusco's from Tallahassee, Florida came back for repeat visit. They were the first visitors of this year on  Jan. 2nd. They have just purchased a new house and are looking to add some more bamboo to their landscape.
	They looked at a wide variety of plants for their new yard. They decided to purchase Phyllostachys Moso "the giant", Indocalamus Tessellatus for a good ground cover, Phyllostachys Vivax Aureocaulis for a big bamboo with color and Semiarundinaria Fastuosa for a unique bamboo.
Here they are with their new bamboo. The strange wrapping around the 15 gallon Moso is to allow is to put it in the back seat of a Saab. We appreciate their return visit and hope these great bamboos add a unique look to their new home.

Tuesday 7/1/2008

	Today Mr. Lynch, his children and girlfriend visited. They were on a road trip from Ohio to the Space Camp in nearby Huntsville, AL. They decided to put Lewis Bamboo on their itinerary since they were so close. In this picture, we are going over the anatomy of bamboo. I hope that it was a good learning experience. I know we can't compete with space camp, but we will still try to make it fun.
They were able to get many large divisions to take back home. Living in Ohio limits the number of species of bamboo that they can grow, but there are still many available. Mr. Lynch decided to plant  Phyllostachys Aureosulcata 'Yellow Groove, Phyllostachys Aureosulcata 'Spectabilis', Phyllostachys Bissetti, and Phyllostachys nigra 'Black' (for a container planting).

We appreciate their business and glad they chose to included our Nursery on their road trip.
