August 20th.
We had a great turn out for our 2nd. annual 'Open House'. We hope all who attended had a great
visit and enjoyed the bamboo. Sorry if you missed out on this one. We did have to cut off taking
appointments due to the number of visitors and time involved. It takes several hours to tour the
groves, purchase and then load your bamboo. We wish to thank everyone
who scheduled and attended this year's event. Below are many photos
of the event and some comments to explain what is going on.
Above left, Shawn with Zachery on his shoulders talks with
Roger Jr. about his bamboo. He has visited before and
now grows around 12 species. Shawn is still adding on to
his beautiful bamboo collection.
Above left, Roger leads the way between a Phyllostachys nigra 'Henon'
(Giant Gray Henon) and Phyllostachys bissetii grove.
Above right, Conray looks at a grove of Phyllostachys aureosulcata
'Spectabilis'. Above left is Vicki and Carol of Green Lizard Landscaping
in Birmingham, Alabama. Vicki's back is toward a large grove of
Pleioblastus simonii Medake.
Above left, Roger Sr. talks about Pleioblastus hindsii.
In the right photo, grandmother takes a short
rest with Van.
Below, Pete & Pat venture off to look at the S. fastuosa (center)
and P. nuda (right).
Below the group heads to the main Moso grove
over looking the river. We have 6 inch diameter
Moso that towers around 65 feet in height.
Below left, Roger Jr. discussed P. japonia 'Arrow' bamboo
with Scott Wiley and son from Tennessee. Once in the Moso,
everyone regardless of age (Zachery holds Moso) seemed to enjoy the shade.

Below Conrad, from Missouri, goes over his bamboo plan
using his laptop to show us exactly what he needed. Robert, from
Smith Lake Alabama, brought photos of his property to demonstrate
his screening needs. This is common practice and does assist
us to help you select the correct bamboo for your specific needs.
Below are good examples of how just a few bamboo culms
and foliage can screen out unsightly areas. In the right photo
there is one of our neighbor's house 18 feet away.
Below, Zachary plays a little peek-a-boo with
Gayle in the Moso grove.
Above and below we load up 11 divisions of Yellow Groove, Moso,
Black, Houzeau and Giant Gray Henon for the trip to Missouri.
